Ghazal Indian Restaurant was the winner of the Leisure Options Best of Joburg Readers’ Choice Award for Best Indian Restaurant from 2010 to 2016.

I've walked past Ghazal in Melrose Arch a number of times and have always been tempted to go in. The decor is so warm and inviting and I love the cozy booths to seat larger tables. The menu is quite extensive and there are a range of meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes to try. We were quite a large table so we ordered a number of dishes. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and efficient. There were lots of interesting naan options that you don't usually find in Indian restaurants. Everything we ordered was delicious! We had the prawn vindaloo, paneer korma, lamb korma, kingklip and chicken tikka. The chicken tikka was one of the best I've had! The serving was huge and the meat was really tender and flavorful. Will definitely return to Ghazal for quality Indian food.

I stopped here this week for some starters and a glass of wine. On this first visit, I had the starter platter: Panner Tikka, Chicken Tikka, Chicken Rishme Kebab, Spinach Pakodas, Potato Pakoda, Veg Samoosas and Chicken Samoosas. I think everything was freshly made and beautifully plated, but personally I found some of the starters a little dry. I plan to return soon and try their curries however as I think that these may be better suited to my tastes. Service: Fantastic! Really friendly, attentive and quick. Interiors: So beautiful! This location is hard to beat and the romantic, candlelit tables made me wish that I was not there alone. This really is a great date night spot. *Recommendation: If it is North Indian cuisine that you are after, Ghazal Melrose Arch is a good option.

Indian food is one of my top choices when it comes to picking a cuisine, and Ghazal did not disappoint. With a selection of vegetarian dishes on the menu, I was spoilt for choice. The vegetarian lentil dish was incredibly satisfying, tasty and prepared to perfection! Paired with a glass of red wine, Ghazal is my choice of Indian restaurant no matter the time of year!

I absolutely adore Ghazal. I have tried almost every single dish on the menu, but my favourite is their Butter Chicken with Butter Naan. The dish is always fresh and so filled with flavour that I can’t help but recommend it! As I am a tea drinker, their Masala Chai Tea is also on the top of my list. I frequent the Melrose Arch branch and it is especially beautiful in the summer time when you can sit outside and enjoy your meal under the trees. The staff are ALWAYS friendly, smiling and incredibly attentive. For the best North Indian cuisine in Johannesburg, there’ no better place to experience!

I love Indian food. I always have. I find Ghazal’s North Indian style of food warm and cosy. I recently started eating a lot more vegetables. Ghazal has a nice selection of veg options – lentil, a cottage cheese Paneer and veg curries. I love the Chicken Biryani too. I sometimes treat myself by ordering two dishes. The Melrose Arch branch is close to home, so I go there. The staff are very well-trained by the owner, Jimmy.
